May 31, 2014

Its been 7 and 1/2 months since I started this endeavor.  I am still learning every time I pick up a paint brush and even when I see or hear something about painting.   Iv'e even become more aware of my surroundings and see different colors, shapes and ideas to use.

I did one yesterday using one brush, black, white and finished by using some glazing material and a different color.

May 21.    Want to thank Mr. & Mrs R. Harrison for choosing several paintings and their generous donation to peninsula volunteers, meals on wheels program.

I went to an artist open house last weekend in Redwood City and saw some wonderful examples of oil and acrylic paintings.  One woman Ms. Shaw mentioned she does her oil painting in layers to achieve the flat almost older look.   I checked and think she does this by using a technique of glazing?   I tried to see if this would work on one I started yesterday and obtained some glazing mixture.    It has an interesting effect on the black and white I did when added.

May 8,  2014    VE Day 1945.

I came across a vibrant picture by a great artist and it was labeled contemporary.  I'm learning there is contemporary, realistic, abstract, neo- something and many more.  Lots to absorb and learn.   Anyway here is my interpretation.

I also saw a picture of an area in Southern China which I also tried to project.

Added a large Poppy for color.

It looks like some progress has been made for the donation of my learning canvas's to Peninsula Volunteers fund raiser in June to support Meals on Wheels.   They would get all the money donated. For example a  $36.00 painting would provide 6 nutritious meals, $72.00, 12 and $120.00, 20 meals.
I'm looking forward to supporting a good cause.
